Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5 is a 2019 action-adventure game developed and published by Capcom. It is the sixth installment overall and the fifth mainline installment in the Devil May Cry series. Released in March 2019.

In 2020, Devil May Cry 5 received expansion with Special Edition version which is exclusive for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. This version features the addition of Vergil as a playable character and new gameplay modes such as Legendary Dark Knight and turbo. Released in November.

The original release had Vergil as paid downloadable content.

  • New Game - Beats the game as fast as possible from a new file.
  • New Game+ - Beats the game as fast as possible from a cleared file.

Boss Strategies

Tricks

DMC5 is a complex game but can be deterministic as long as players understand the strategies and tricks that can help them through the runs. Following lists shows important strats that are most often used in the speedruns.

  • Common Skips - Important sequence breaks for each missions.
  • Cancel - Cancel any moves no matter the siuation.
  • Reversal - Ignore enemies target during movement section.
  • Exceed - Tapping Exceed button right after the hit connects awards you with EX-Charge.
  • Ignition Storage - Freeze Barlog's countdown of Ignition mode.
  • Nightmare Parry - Checkmate most of the Angelo groups with one parry.
  • Skewer Breach - Clip through wall with Shadow's Skewer
  • Rapid Trick Down - Move Vergil faster than usual.

Rules

(These rules apply to all DMC5 speedrun categories. Each category also has its own set of rules in addition to the one listed here.)

  • PC runs are ranked by Load Time Removal (LRT) while Console are Real Time Attack (RTA).
  • Orb count must be unobscured during the run.
  • All DLC, including the 100,000 Red Orb Bonus, are banned.
  • Using turbo controllers, Macros, or Mods is not allowed.
  • Red Orb microtransactions and Live Action Cutscenes are banned.
  • Network option must be disabled.
  • Submissions must contain all footage for the run provided.
  • Any modifications to the game that affect the gameplay itself is not allowed.
  • Runs performed on Special Edition – even with Turbo Mode disabled – are banned in the Vanilla board. Submit all Special Edition speedruns to the DMC5SE leaderboards
