Devil May Cry 3

Devil May Cry 3 is a 2005 action-adventure game developed and published by Capcom. It was re‐released in 2006 as Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, featuring turbo mode, the addition of mid-mission checkpoints, “GOLD mode”, and Vergil as a playable character.

This wiki focuses mainly on the Special Edition version. Note: The World Record Progression and the best segemented time is shared with both releases.

Boss Strategies

Tricks

There are number of Strategies and movement tricks that can significantly shorten the amount of time needed to progress through the game. Devil May Cry 3 is heavily deterministic game so the following list is only a selection of possible strats most often used in speedruns.

  • Cancel - Bypass certain animations in order to attack or act faster.
  • Taunt - Restores 1.5 stocks of DT and increases Stylish rank.
  • Reverse Stinger - Ignore enemies target during movement section.
  • Despawning - Make the next wave not appear or force an enemy to despawn.
  • Gigazip - End Mission 4 after the first mandatory fight.
  • DT Flux - Unleash a flux of energy which kills or makes high amount of damage in the surrounding area.

Rules

(These rules apply to all DMC3 speedrun categories. Each category also has its own set of rules in addition to the one listed here.)

  • PC runs are ranked by Load Time Removal (LRT) while Console are Real Time Attack (RTA).
  • Submissions must contain all footage for the run provided.
  • Region is needed for PS2 runs.
  • Using a second controller for controlling M19 Vergil or Doppelgänger style is forbidden.
  • Using a turbo button function for shooting Summoned Swords is allowed.
  • Doing cutscene movement in sections where it is not normally possible in the PC 2006 port is forbidden. Possible ones:
    • Mission 4, 5, 7 and 14 - Elevators.
    • Mission 12 - Geryon Defeat.
    • Mission 17 - Spike room.
